1. Pat Hits the Style Section

A couple of weeks ago writer Michael Schulman spent the entire morning with me at NY1. The result of his work is in the New York Times today. He says watching NY1 in the morning is a sign that you’re a real New Yorker. I don’t think we cover quite as many mayoral ribbon cuttings the article suggests, but it’s a nice piece.

  2. VIDEO: Frog Sitting on a Bench

I might be the last one to see this but it’s so funny I’m going to swallow my pride and post it anyways. No, it’s not “Double Rainbow”...it’s just a frog sitting on a bench, like a human. RoltonB, who posted the VIDEO on YouTube, says no trickery was involved, he (or she) was just at the right place at the right time: “There is no nails, no glue, animal abuse, etc. Later, [the frog] jumped off the bench and galloped away to the water.”

  3. The Campaign for Kelly’s Final Rose

So apparently, I’m a contestant on “The Bachelor.” David Hinckley writes about the ongoing co-host search for someone to join Kelly Ripa in his New York Daily News column this morning. He says it’s hard to miss the “courtship aspect” of the search, made all the more visible by a “tongue-in-cheek ‘Bachelor’ motif.” Ratings are up 10 percent over last year, but the show’s producers say they won’t allow it to go on forever.

Dr. Dre had a surprising guest when he took the stage at Coachella music festival in California this weekend: Tupac. Yes, the rapper, who died 15 years ago, “performed” next to Snoop Dogg and Dre. So how’d they do that? They used a hologram, made by the same company that created a fake Brad Pitt for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” It was such a success now there’s talk of virtual Tupac going on tour.

Trivia fans and journalism buffs alike will get a kick out of this very impressive list I just came across. Jeremy Porter, who writes for the blog Journalistics, decided he wanted to do a post about journalism movies. And boy did he.

  7. WSJ Makes News Alerts more DVR-Friendly

Sometimes it’s the little things that mean a lot.  I’ve noticed that the Wall Street Journal has made a subtle change in the way it sends out e-mail news bulletins.  When the newsworthy event is a competition, the Journal is consistently careful to avoid revealing the result in the first line of the e-mail.

Sick of waiting for your How to Drink Chocolate Milk video to load? Now, you can buy the entire YouTube collection on DVD. It will arrive in a set of nesting boxes, delivered by a fleet of 170 trucks or pack mule, if you live on a steep grade. Actually, the offer ended yesterday but the very funny April Fools’ video remains.
