1. Ask Tom Brokaw How He Really Feels…

Tom Brokaw is not a fan of the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. He went on a mini-tirade yesterday on “Meet the Press” lambasting the annual event as evidence that the media has given up on serious political coverage and lost touch with the American public. Brokaw does ‘fess up to being a charter member of the White House Correspondents Association, but says even though he’d “like to meet Charlize Theron,” things have gotten a little out of hand. VIDEO

  2. Recommended Reading: NYC Needs Better Traffic Tolls

If you aren’t in New York City you’ll probably want to skip today’s blog post. But if you are in the city I think this is an important column. Traffic consultant Sam Schwartz has been on a campaign for a few years to try to get New York City to adopt a more sensible plan for traffic tolls. In a guest column in the New York Daily News, he explains the problem in a way anybody can understand.

  5. Pat and Kelly: First Reviews Are In

Gothamist has a nice recap of my second stint in the co-anchor chair next to Kelly. They say I was noticeably better than before. It’s true I felt more comfortable than the first time around—and I told the Gothamist reporter it was much easier to fall asleep the night before. They hunted down Kelly after the show to see what she thought of me, and she echoed the praise, calling me “natural and funny.” Cross your fingers that my hot streak continues this morning.

  7. Pat Hits the Style Section

A couple of weeks ago writer Michael Schulman spent the entire morning with me at NY1. The result of his work is in the New York Times today. He says watching NY1 in the morning is a sign that you’re a real New Yorker. I don’t think we cover quite as many mayoral ribbon cuttings the article suggests, but it’s a nice piece.

  8. VIDEO: Frog Sitting on a Bench

I might be the last one to see this but it’s so funny I’m going to swallow my pride and post it anyways. No, it’s not “Double Rainbow”...it’s just a frog sitting on a bench, like a human. RoltonB, who posted the VIDEO on YouTube, says no trickery was involved, he (or she) was just at the right place at the right time: “There is no nails, no glue, animal abuse, etc. Later, [the frog] jumped off the bench and galloped away to the water.”

  9. The Campaign for Kelly’s Final Rose

So apparently, I’m a contestant on “The Bachelor.” David Hinckley writes about the ongoing co-host search for someone to join Kelly Ripa in his New York Daily News column this morning. He says it’s hard to miss the “courtship aspect” of the search, made all the more visible by a “tongue-in-cheek ‘Bachelor’ motif.” Ratings are up 10 percent over last year, but the show’s producers say they won’t allow it to go on forever.
