Today’s Starbucks Alter Ego comes from Jen. She writes: “Just went to get my tall skinny soy caramel frap ...the barrista didn’t even know what it said. Luckily she believed it was close enough to Jennifer (my name, that was clearly given at time of order) that I was able to collect my afternoon caffeine fix.” Whew.

It’s good to be passionate about something. In the tradition of the Double Rainbow Guy, the internet has now found the “Excited Train Guy.” Apparently, the more you know about trains the more the little things excite you.

We got this message, along with today’s Alter Ego: “My name is Micah, but that is generally too hard for the Starbucks crew so I told them my name was Mike.

“Me going off me rocker—please be me Betty Crocker.” That’s has to be my favorite line from Cookie Monster’s hilarious spoof on Carly Rae Jepsen’s song “Call Me Maybe.”

Today’s Alter Ego comes from Jane. She writes: “For some reason the lovely baristas at Starbucks have difficulty with my relatively simple name.  Over time, I’ve gotten used being called ‘Jean’ when my drink is ready, but this one today takes the cake. Attached you will find a delightful photo of Jeam’s iced latte.”

It was fun while it lasted. San Diego’s fireworks show on July 4th was supposed to be 18 minutes long. But thanks to a mistake with the system that times the fireworks to music, all 20,000 shells were ignited in the space of just 15 seconds.

Not quite the Olympic Spirit. I’m sure Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad is regretting his post-victory move at the European Athletic Championships. Instead of a celebratory lap, the French runner shoved a 14-year-old girl, who was dressed as a mascot and trying to hand him a t-shirt. VIDEO

My friend Ali Velshi and I co-anchored a business news show for several years at CNNfn. We reunited to celebrate a holiday that’s oft-overlooked on this side of the border: Canada Day. My favorite part of this is the Bryan Adams clip near the end, which he actually taped on stage during a concert.

Nandita Sahni has been busy collecting Alter Egos this week. We got our hands on a couple, along with this note:  “For the record, my name is Nandita. Not exactly simple but COME ON.”
