UK Sex Manual for Kids Causes Controversy

Does a five-year-old need to know what masturbation is? Or what a prostitute is? A new sex ed primer for kids is causing quite a bit of to-do in the UK reports the Daily Mail this morning. The material includes books, videos and “explicit cartoons” that, among other things, explain what an orgasm is, show cartoon characters demonstrating various sexual positions and explain several “adult” vocabulary words. The collection is being promoted by local governments and the BBC for school kids ages five and up. Concerned parents say they’re worried their kids will be sexualized by the material.
Here are Amazon links to two of the books included in the package:
“How Did I Begin?” and “Let’s Talk About Sex”
And here’s a link to one of the video resources causing a stir. You can’t actually stream the videos if you’re outside the UK but you can read the blurb to get a sense of what is included.
