The Wall Street Journal makes a surprising claim this morning: 100 miles on a bicycle is equal, longevity-wise, to a round of golf. A new study in the British Medical Journal looked at the mortality rates of about 10,000 Olympians and found that those who competed in strenuous sports like bicycling and rowing didn’t live any longer than those who competed in golf or cricket. The Journal says this is the latest in a growing body of research that indicates “years-long doses of extreme exercise may be unproductive, if not counterproductive.”
