S&P Issues Warning on US Debt


Standard & Poor’s issued a warning to the federal government yesterday as the rating agency lowered its outlook of U.S. Treasury securities from “stable” to “negative” reports the Wall Street Journal: get your debt under control or risk your AAA rating. The Journal accompanies the story with a great country-by-country graphic of national debt. Lowering the country’s triple-A rating would push up interest rates on Treasury bonds, which would in turn raise the cost of credit around the country.
