Judge Denies Tattoo Artist’s Bid to Block “Hangover II” Release

Excited to see the “Hangover” sequel this weekend? You can thank a federal judge in Missouri for your opportunity to do so. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the judge refused a local tattoo artist’s bid to block the nationwide premiere over a copyright issue. The artist is the guy who did Mike Tyson’s face tattoo. He’s suing the filmmakers for etching the same design on actor Ed Helm’s face for the movie. The Post-Dispatch says if successful, the injunction would’ve affected 7,000 screens in 3,600 theaters and cost the studio millions in lost revenue. The original copyright suit will continue and legal scholars say it could set an interesting precedent “by allowing someone to own a physical attribute of another person.”
