Hair Pollution Shows Mercury Threat

Forget air pollution, we’re talking about hair pollution. The Minneapolis Star Tribune says the Sierra Club recently asked members to have strands of their hair tested to see whether higher than recommended levels of mercury would be found. Turns out, they were. All of those tested had some mercury in their hair and 13 percent had mercury levels higher than what federal guidelines say are safe. The hair testing was part of the group’s efforts to promote new legislation that would regulate mercury emitted from coal-burning electric generating plants.
