Don’t call them mom and dad—call them big brother. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says more and more parents are installing video cameras in the cars of their teenagers to keep an eye on their driving.
The DriveCam uses “gravitational forces” to trigger the record button which then streams a teen’s driving infractions to a parent’s computer. It’s offered for free by the American Family Insurance’s Teen Safe Driver program which operates under the slogan, “We can certainly give you something to talk about with your child.” Industry experts say there’s no data regarding whether the camera actually reduces the rate of accidents but they believe having a video recording of a teen’s mistakes will help him or her realize ans correct dangerous behavior in a more timely manner.
