Bus Driver Out of Work After Killing Snowman

A bus driver has lost his job after hitting a man standing in the middle of the street reports the Chicago Tribune this morning. Except this wasn’t just any man—it was a snowman—and the whole thing was caught on tape. The YouTube video shows the driver veering towards the snowman and features two unidentified men screaming as the snowman meets his fate.
According to the Daily Illini, the video (called “Insane Bus Driver Brutally Murders Snowman”) spawned a Facebook group dedicated to saving the bis driver’s job.
It’s unclear whether the driver was fired or quit his position after the snowman killing. Comments on Facebook’s Save the Bus Driver page indicate he was a four-year employee who “worked overtime every day and on his days off to support his family.” The bus company also skirts the issue, writing in an online forum: The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District agrees that an employee dismissal over a single event like the “snowman incident” in a vacuum would be a strong reaction, but every situation is unique and requires a comprehensive investigation into patterns of behavior. As we’ve said before, MTD cannot and will not discuss personnel issues with the public.”
