Column: Apple Store Intersection Shows Glimpse into Future

How long does it take to step into the future asks Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich? About 15 seconds, if you live in Chicago. In a poignant column, Schmich talks about the jarring juxtaposition of seeing once bustling, now nearly dead Borders across the street from a bustling-more-than-ever Apple store. It reminded her of “photos of Chicago or New York in the early 1900s, when a few horse-drawn buggies can be seen jostling for street space with the throng of newfangled conveyances called cars.”

Borders employees aren’t being allowed to talk to the media but Schmich spotted a sign of their disillusionment in the window: a definitely-not-sanctioned-by-corporate sign reading: Hire Us! As you know, this Borders location will soon be closed leaving many bright and friendly people looking for work. If you or someone you know is hiring please let us know!
