Where’s Borders? Bookseller Hit Hard By Changing Landscape

It’s not where’s Waldo these days, says the Washington Post—the more appropriate question is, where’s Borders? One longtime customer told the paper he figures it’s not a question of if the chain will go under anymore, but rather one of when. And he posed a good question to the reporter: “how many record stores are there these days?”

The Post calls Borders a “major force in redefining Americans’ reading habits,” but says that hasn’t helped them stay relevant in a changing landscape. The chain recently suspended payment to book publishers and a number of its stores have closed their doors.
