1. NYC Taxis of Tomorrow to Have “Low-Annoyance Horn”

    New York City has just announced the winner of its “Taxi of Tomorrow” competition.  Nissan will build a minivan that will soon become the only vehicle permitted for use as a yellow cab in the city. The contest mandated several rider-friendly features. But my favorite requirement is one that will improve life for the people outside the cab: “low-annoyance horn.”

  3. Man Inadvertantly Live-Blogs Bin Laden’s Death

    One of the most amazing stories today is about a man named Sohaib Athar who essentially live-blogged the Osama bin Laden raid…without realizing it. Under the Twitter handle @ReallyVirtual, Athar who had just relocated to Abbottabad, Pakistan from Lahore, began grumbling about noisy helicopters near his home.

Both spellings appear on a fascinating list compiled by LinkedIn about the most popular names for several different professions. Male CEOs tend to have short names or shortened versions of longer names: Bob is high on the list. So is Jack. Female executives, on the other hand, tend to have long names and shy away from nicknames.

That’s exactly what happened last Friday—Good Friday—when a computer glitch forced the doors of a New Zealand supermarket open an hour before employees showed up for work.
