Wikipedia a Man’s Game

The New York Times has a story about Wikipedia’s gender gap on the front page this morning. Apparently, only 13 percent of Wikipedia’s volunteer contributors and editors are women. Their goal is to get that to 25 percent. But the Times says the foundation is “running up against the traditions of the computer world and an obsessive fact-loving realm that is dominated by men.”

The Times says the disparity shows up most in article about typically female topics. For example, an entry on friendship bracelets is about four paragraphs long; the entry on baseball cards has five extensive sections with several subheadings.
