Airlines Not Likely to Adopt Pay-By-Weight Strategy


In this morning’s paper, New York Times travel writer Joe Sharkey weighs in on the “pay by the pound” fares introduced by a Samoa-based airline. He says after years of being asked how to save money on flights he finally has a reliable answer: lose weight. But Sharkey says don’t worry, passenger weight-based pricing is not a model that is likely to be adopted across the airline industry—although weight is great concern to airlines, it’s more about safety than profit.
