The New York Times says the “Harlem Shake” is back but the viral videos look nothing like the dance that inspired them.Ever since music producer Bauer’s version hit the Billboard Hot 100, the craze has created more than 200,000 YouTube videos—including a puppy version, a grandma version, and a stripper version. The original credit goes to a man named Al B., who died back in 2006, a skinny guy who was known around the neighborhood for his “frenetic, technical” dance moves.
The Times has a great outline of the evolution of the dance, below are the original Harlem Shake and the today’s “version.”
