US Hospital Accepts Dying Canadian Baby

A Missouri hospital has found itself in the middle of a right-to-life battle after a Canadian baby was airlifted to the facility late last night reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Catholic hospital said it would accept the infant, who’s terminally ill, after a Canadian health panel refused to perform the throat surgery his parents want, saying the operation would be “futile” and put the baby at risk of infection. The Canadian doctors planned to take the infant off his ventilator, a plan his parents claim would put the boy in pain. Instead he will receive a tracheotomy this week, which is intended to extend his life by a few months. The anti-abortion group Priests for Life paid for his transfer to the US and all of his medical bills.

The Globe and Mail has the story from a Canadian perspective.
