UCLA Hospitals Fined For Celebrity Privacy Breach

The UCLA health care system just agreed to pay $865,500 in a settlement stemming from the 2008 revelation that its employees had illegally accessed the medical records of several celebrities, including Farrah Fawcett, Maria Shriver and Michael Jackson. The LA Times says the hospital system was fined after “failing to remedy the problems, discipline or retrain staff.” As part of the settlement, UCLA had to lay out a plan for retraining its staff.
