Too Cold For Recess? Depends Where You Are

When is it too cold for recess? The answer depends, says USA Today, on what part of the country you’re in. In one Minnesota school district, the self-proclaimed “ice box of the nation,” students are sent outside until the temperature dips below 15 degrees F, “no matter what.” Added a local principal: “At 20 below, it gets iffy.” Along the eastern seaboard, 35 to 40 degrees seems to be the limit. For the most part, however, elementary teachers all over the country are reluctant to cancel recess: “Little kids need to run around.”
