The Rise of the Made-Up Scientific Journal


The New York Times chronicles the rise of the pseudo-academic journal in this morning’s paper. Apparently, there are a growing number of scientific journals and related conferences that require only a hefty sum from their participants—not actual qualifications. Some blame the phenomenon on a wider movement to make scientific journals free, what one academic calls “the dark side of open access.”
