Superman Plaque Returned Unharmed

Three weeks after it was stolen, and a week after it was announced he was giving up his US citizenship, a plaque honoring the birthplace of Superman was returned reports the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. Locals say the swirl of publicity surrounding the theft made it “as radioactive as a chunk of kryptonite.” Several theories emerged after the theft, the most popular being that the thieves thought the rust colored sign was made of bronze and hoped to sell it as scrap metal. Or maybe they were just spelling snobs: The Plain-Dealer says the name of Superman’s creator Jerry Siegel is misspelling on the plaque, a mistake that won’t be corrected now that it’s been returned safely.
