Confirmed: Men Avoid the Doctor; Women Become their Mother

Sometimes, stereotypes turn out to be true. The one about men avoiding the doctor? That’s accurate says USA Today. According to a new survey, about half American men, aged 18 to 50 don’t have a primary care physician; one third haven’t had a check up in more than a year. What’s more, 70 percent of men in their 40s have never had a prostate exam and 40 percent have never had their cholesterol tested. Other findings included: 39 percent of men say they could stand to lose 20 pounds or more; 57 percent of men eat fast food one to three times a week; 37 percent say their waist is between 32-34 inches.

Esquire has five rules for making a doctor’s trip as painless as possible. First rule? Book the first appointment of the day to avoid waiting around.

And what about women turning into their mothers? The New York Post says that happens at age 32. A UK poll pinpointed that age as when women start picking up the traits of their mothers, everything from how she treats her partner to “watching soaps, becoming overly opinionated and stockpiling on groceries.” But turns out, it’s not just women: the poll found that 25 percent of men say they’ve developed “momerisms” too.
