Stand Up: Sitting is “The New Smoking”


Sitting at work is “the new smoking,” says Marc Hamilton, a researcher on physiology. He tells the Washington Post sitting is dangerous, and the evidence to back him up is building. One academic paper titled “Your Chair: Comfortable but Deadly” says rates of heart disease, obesity and death are higher among those who sit for long stretches. In addition those who prefer to work standing up say it helps them focus and avoid drowsiness.
