“Sex-Starved Turtles” Cause JFK Delay

Passengers flying out of JFK yesterday were delayed on the tarmac…but not for the usual reasons. The New York Daily News says a pack of “sex-starved turtles,” making their way across runways en route to their breeding grounds, forced air traffic controllers to delay outgoing flights. JetBlue justified the delays this way: “Running over turtles is not healthy for them, nor is it good for our tires.”
I got an email from Jeremy Olshan, who wrote the New York Post‘s version of the story. He pointed out that the turtles were not sex-starved—they were sex-sated. In fact, they were crossing the runway to looking for a place to lay their eggs.
