Review: Verizon iPhone Better at Voice Calls than AT&T
Thursday, 03 February 2011 | by Pat's Picks

The big three newspaper tech columnists, USA Today‘s Ed Baig, Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times’ David Pogue, all deliver Verizon iPhone reviews this morning. And they are all remarkably consistent in their comments. The main point in favor of the Verizon iPhone is that it was noticeably more reliable on voice calls. All three reviews note fewer dropped calls with Verizon than with AT&T. Writes Pogue: “At a Kennedy airport gate, the AT&T phone couldn’t even find a signal; the Verizon dialed with a smug yawn.”
All three columnists also point out weaknesses in Verizon’s model, namely that you can’t be online while you’re on the phone. And they mention the downfall that curbed my enthusiasm in the Verizon model: it doesn’t have a GSM chip, so it won’t connect to cell phone networks in most places overseas.
