Restaurants Serve Up Bad Acoustics


Pass the what? There’s a reason linens are placed on a table: they absorb sound.  A story in this morning’s Wall Street Journal looks at why modern restaurant design is bad for acoustics. The Journal says the trend towards “cavernous spaces with wood floors, linen-free tables, high ceilings and lots of windows” make it almost impossible to enjoy a conversation with your meal.
