Pope Confirms Condom Comment

Yes, we did hear him correctly. The Boston Globe says the pope confirmed his surprising condom comment yesterday. According to his official spokesman, the pope reiterated that he thought condoms were a responsible way for people infected by HIV to protect others from the disease, adding “whether it’s a man or woman or a transsexual.’’

He did not, however, endorse condom use for the general public or change the Catholic Church’s stance on contraception. Regardless, experts say a lot can be read between the lines: “The pope is implicitly saying that you cannot anymore raise the objection that any use of the condom is an intrinsic evil.’’
