Pop Music Gets Profane (Except for “Bless You”)


I realize I sound like a 70-year-old man saying this, but back in my day if you were going to put a song on the radio you used words that were suitable for the entire family. The New York Times points out that three of the current top ten songs prominently include a swear word that begins with an ‘f.’ Call me crazy, but I don’t want to hear my young daughters humming Cee-Lo’s “F$%# You“ under their breath.  Pink and Enrique Iglesias are the other offenders. The Times calls the development pop music’s “fight to be noticed.” Internet experts say because censorship is anathema on the web, shock value is viral.”
