Did you know that they’re not allowed to make Stilton cheese in Stilton, England? And the Wall Street Journal says an EU law aimed at protecting local foods is to blame. When the Stilton Cheesemakers Association applied for a “Product Designation of Origin” from the EU, the town of Stilton became exempt from making its eponymous cheese because the town falls outside the area designated for making Stilton.
