New Comic Eerily Similar to Japan Disaster

Talk about bad timing. A San Diego comic book publisher is worried that today’s release of “Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters” might make some people cringe. Not only does the story start with a “lethal threat erupting from the sea,” it involves an “earthquake, tsunami [and] runaway reactors” says the Union Tribune. Publisher IDW says the book went to print on February 15, before the real-life crisis in Japan occurred. They contemplated pulling the issue but decided to donate proceeds from a special batch with commemorative covers to aid the tsunami relief.

Maybe the publisher should think about disappearing. After reports that the CEO of Tokyo Electric is MIA, the Washington Post says “vanishing in times of crisis is something of a tradition among Japan’s industrial and political elite.”
