Netflix Casts Its Canadian Opening

They’ve obviously been watching too many movies. Netflix’s Canadian launch was a flop when it was discovered that the enthusiastic crowd filling a Toronto street for the event was actually a bunch of paid actors says the Globe and Mail. According to the casting call, actors were encouraged to ?play types, for example, mothers, film buffs, tech geeks, couch potatoes etc.?

It was only when these fake tech geeks and couch potatoes started talking to the media, who were oblivious to the situation, that people got upset. The company issued an apology, mumbling something about making a “corporate documentary.”

In case Netflix decides to produce a sequel, the Globe and Mail composed a good list of ways to tell if you’re interviewing a paid actor. Number 8 is my favorite: “You ask about streaming movie prices and somehow he manages to change the subject to the atrociously poor working conditions of the modern butt-double.”
