MLB Ponders Rule Change After Giants Catcher Gets Clobbered

There’s a photo that’s hard to look at on the front page of the San Jose Mercury News this morning. It’s of Giants’ catcher Buster Posey getting clobbered by a Florida Marlins player sliding into home. Though it looks like his neck is about to snap in half, Posey hobbled away with a broken leg and several torn ankle ligaments. The Mercury News says his injury has prompted a discussion within the MLB about whether rules should be changed to protect catchers. Said the Giants’ manager: “There are so many who have gotten hurt—and not just a little bit. I mean, careers ended or shortened.”
