Minorities “Immune” to Hockey Fever

The Stanley Cup finals are underway, with Chicago and Philadelphia competing for the title, but the Chicago Tribune says large parts of the city’s population are immune to “Blackhawk fever.” The paper says in minority communities there are few opportunities to learn about or play hockey. And an absence of minority players in the NHL makes it hard to relate. Currently the league has only 18 black players and three Hispanic ones. The NHL is trying to change the perception that the sport is only for whites with its initiative, Hockey is for Everyone.
