Man Sentenced to 15 Years of Letter Writing

Here’s an idea to bolster the post office’s flailing business: mandatory post card writing. Instead of jail time, a Florida man was sentenced to 15 years of weekly post card writing says the Orlando Sentinel. The victim’s family said they did not believe the 22-year-old man’s claims that he thought about his crime every day. So the judge decided to ensure he’d think—and write—about it at least once a week. There’s no word on whether a ‘sincerely’ or a ‘yours truly’ is required but if the man shirks his letter-writing duties, he will be facing 15 years in prison.

The paper says “creative punishments” are on the rise because some judges find the public embarrassment factor does more to deter crime than jail time.
