“I’m just asking you, my comrades in urban theatergoing, to think before you stand, if you must stand at all.” That plea is from Ben Brantley in today’s New York Times. His column is in support of the “sitting ovation.” He says the standing ovation has become so common on Broadway that it doesn’t mean a thing. He thinks tourists might be responsible, because after paying big money for tickets they feel standing at the end justifies what they spent.
