Remember when back-to-school shopping was all about getting the coolest Trapper Keeper or lunch box? Apparently, times have changed. According to new data, high-tech gadgets are creeping to the top of the most-purchased list, even for elementary school kids. Laptops, smartphones, even pencil cases with designated space for a flash drive are all the rage says the Indianapolis Star. Teachers say trying to ban cell phones and laptops in school is a losing battle and instead they try to focus on when a student can and cannot use their devices. Says one administrator: “Trying to keep 4,500 kids from using cell phones is like herding cats.”
