How Green is Your Christmas Tree?

This time of year prompts dreams of a white Christmas, not a green one. But the Washington Post asks an interesting question this morning: Is a Christmas tree OK for the environment? The argument that tree famers have been making for years is that perennially planting new trees is an effective way to absorb carbon in the atmosphere. Critics point to the end of a Christmas tree’s life, when it becomes paper, or woodchips, and all that carbon is released.
