How do airlines spend your airfare? There’s a fun calculation in the Wall Street Journal this morning explaining just that. On a typical flight only one in 100 passengers represents a “profit” for the airline. It takes about 14 passengers to cover the federal taxes an airline must pay. The rest of the money they charge goes towards things like fuel, salaries, and maintaining those oxygen masks.
