Hold Your Breath For This Hairdo

I’m always amazed at the lengths some people will go to in the name of beauty. Check out this photo in today’s New York Times. Yes, that is an industrial-strength respirator strapped to that woman’s face. Apparently, this Brazilian hair straightening treatment is all the rage—despite the fact that it contains high levels of formaldehyde.

That piece of information is new, coming from a recent report out of Oregon. But even before the ingredients in Brazilian Blowout were studied, stylists around the country were giving the treatment outside or offering their customers respirators to deal with the noxious fumes. The price tag for subjecting yourself? Anywhere between $125 to $700 a session.
