Hacked Highway Sign Warns Drivers: ‘No Latinos, No Tacos’

The Sun-Sentinel calls it “graffiti for the digital age.” Instead of warning drivers about an upcoming lane closure, someone reprogrammed an electronic construction sign on a south Florida highway to read: “No Latinos. No Tacos.” Apparently, instructions on how to pull off a sign switch are widely available on the Internet. The paper says a sign owned by the same company was hacked into last week in Phoenix. The sign was altered to show support for Arizona’s recent anti-immigration law, reading: “SB1070 Rules. Import illegals back to Mexico.”

Jalopnik.com is the website that has instructions on how to hack into road signs. The site’s editors warn readers not to “under any circumstances run around hacking into electronic road signs using the information contained in this step-by-step guide of how to transmit hilarious messages to passing motorists.”
