Georgia to Put PTSD Diagnosis on Veterans’ Driver’s Licenses

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says that the state senate recently approved a measure that would allow veterans suffering from PTSD to have their condition printed on their driver’s licenses. The paper says the new law, which still has to be signed by the governor, would make Georgia the first state to indicate a health condition, other than poor eyesight, on a license. The declaration is voluntary and was suggested by a veteran suffering from PTSD who told lawmakers, “God forbid anybody put handcuffs on me. I?d go berserk.” Critics say they doubt that many people “will want their PTSD diagnosis put on display when they present their driver?s licenses to cash a check, buy alcohol, board an airplane or face a traffic cop.”
