Flip Flop Fly Ball an ‘Insightful, Innovative, Ridiculous’ Look at Baseball Stats

Ever wonder how tall A-Rod’s salary would be in pennies? Or what a baseball game between the Wu-Tang Clan and the E Street Band might look like? To find out, the Wall Street Journal says all you have to do is flip through Craig Robinson’s book. Inspired by his blog of the same name, the graphic artist has turned Flip Flop Fly Ball into home base for “infographics that illustrate baseball minutiae from a stat-focused perspective.”
When asked how he comes up with his bizarre stats, Robinson cites Bjork’s lyrics as an inspiration: “They are so inventive because it’s her second language. I think there’s an inventiveness that comes from a second language.” For him, baseball is the second language—Robinson, an Englishman, began plying his unique trade in 2006, when he caught his first baseball game on a trip to New York.
