Driving with Diabetes

Speed? Check. Gas? Check. Blood sugar? Check. Ford has teamed up with a medical supplier to create a device that lets diabetics check their blood sugar levels while on the go. The Minneapolis Star Tribune says using the in-car communications system and connecting by Bluetooth, drivers are alerted when glucose levels drop too low by a beep or a light on their dashboard. It’s an important advance, say both companies involved, because a drop in blood sugar is often associated with light-headedness and blurred vision, two symptoms that can make driving dangerous.
