Detroit Offers Up $1,000 Houses to Lure Cops

Talk about a signing bonus. Detroit’s mayor Dave Bing is so desperate to get police officers to buy houses in the Motor City that he’s offering up a deal they can’t refuse: $1000 houses. According to the Detroit News, 200 foreclosed-upon houses are being offered up to cops who are willing to become homeowners. The deal will also make them eligible for $150,000 federal rehabilitation tax credit. The plan is called Project 14, which is police code for “back to normal.” The News says 53 percent of Detroit’s police force live in the suburbs.
