Dating Service Caters to Silicon Valley “Millionerds”

According to the San Jose Mercury News, “Valentine’s Day is the only holiday that divides the world into successes and failures.” And in Silicon Valley, the land of “men with sketchy grooming habits and a tendency to talk too summa cum loudly,” there are lots of losers, a situation that inspired one entrepreneur to set up a dating service, complete with mock dates and makeovers, specifically for “millionerd frogs.”

The romance lessons aren’t cheap—$50,000 for two years. And clients are subjected to practice dates, to polish their romance skills, which many describe as kind of like going out with your mom. If you happen to fall into the millionerd category, here’s a list of dos and don’ts the agency put together to help the success-in-business, unsuccessful-in-love crowd:

No Googling! Leave some mystery for that first meeting.

No photos. Unlike online services, Linx doesn’t let matches see each other before the date.

Leave work at work. Don’t bring it to the date.

Go on weekend dates, when you’re not stressed out.

Don’t be distracted. Put your phone on mute; better still, leave it in the car.

If you’re into somebody, express that. If you’re having a good time, touch your date’s arm.

Indulge the senses. Have dessert after dinner.

Chivalry is not dead. Open doors. Listen.

Give your match a chance. People draw quick conclusions on first dates, so try to plan a second meeting.

Absolutely no sex on the first date. Leave something for the next meeting.
