Could Shrimps Save Detroit?

Welcome to Motor, I mean Shrimp City, USA. A Detroit man wants to use Henry Ford’s model of manufacturing infrastructure to create an indoor shrimping industry that he says would pump thousands of jobs into the area. Russ Allen, the man with the plan, has developed one of first large-scale systems for growing shrimp. If the plan takes off it could lead to other ventures into seafood.  The Detroit Free-Press says with 20 percent of the world’s fresh water, Michigan is poised to become a “major center of aquaculture”; Americans eat about 4.8 billion pounds of seafood each year, more than 80 percent of which is imported.
