Clarence Clemons, E Street Band’s Saxophonist Dies at 69

Goodbye, Big Man. The front page of the Asbury Park Press is dedicated to Clarence Clemons, the legendary saxophonist and E Street Band member whose “solos exquisitely framed the songs of Bruce Springsteen” for decades. He died over the weekend from complications of a stroke. He was 69. Known for his imposing stature (6’6”, 250 pounds) as much as talent, Clemons began his partnership with Springsteen after meeting at New Jersey bar in the 1970s. Before picking up the sax, Clemons was a jack of all trades, working at a reform school and as a semi-pro football player.
