Office Candy Saboteur

Our scheduler at NY1 has a candy jar on her desk with which I am well acquainted. It never occurred to me that I should blame someone else for tempting my sweet tooth but the Wall Street Journal says many office employees see their colleague’s pot of sweets as diet sabotage. A 2006 study found that workers ate, on average, two more pieces of candy when it was in a clear jar as opposed to an opaque one. When the jar was moved within arm’s reach, the number jumped two more. Apparently, eating just two pieces of candy every work day adds about 480 calories to your weekly total. The journal says to burn that off, you’d have to walk for 157 minutes, run 29 minutes or spend 132 minutes ballroom dancing.
