Bush’s Daughter Stands Up for Gay Marriage

“I am Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality.” That’s what the daughter of former president George W. Bush says in a short video, to be released today, in support of gay marriage reports the New York Times. She’s the latest in a string of Republican daughters to publicly support same-sex unions, following the lead of Meghan McCain and Mary Cheney.
The Times says because Bush “rarely speaks out on American political issues,” today’s announcement is especially conspicuous. But friends who’ve known Bush since her college days say she has always been surrounded by gay friends and “was loved by the gay community at Yale.”
