Birds’ Biggest Enemy: Glass Buildings

It’s tough out there for a bird. The Philadelphia Inquirer says the city’s many buildings with glass facades are especially brutal on the local avian population. Because they can’t tell differentiate between a reflective surface and a clear flight path, many end up flying directly into skyscrapers, and then falling to their death. Experts estimate about 1,000 birds die due to glass building-related injuries each migration period.
